Tuning into my child, what I did with my Friday night
For one night I tuned into what goes on in her world, put down the electronics. I slept in a fort, learned the inner gaming secrets of Minecraft & laughed till I cried.
Don't get me wrong my daughter (11 at the time of this post) and I are already close, and spend tons of time together but we are outdoors folk and that is where most of our quality time happens. As well as the occasional crafting at home.
It being Easter long weekend and a 4 day school break for her I thought what better way to spend the first night than to surprise her with asking if she'd like to camp out in the living room with mom. To most of you that doesn't sound so exciting but to a child of any age that's a pretty cool proposition.

It started out as a typical campout built a sheet shelter/tent, pulled in some small mattresses & blankets, played board games (yes those still exist and I'm a huge fan of them) by lantern light, and ate popcorn. when we were too tired to play games but too awake to sleep she asked me if I wanted to watch some videos about her favorite online game Minecraft.
Now I know what Minecraft is and I like that it is a constructive activity on the computer keeping the kids away from the media (that I do not encourage as in everything nowadays that is to sexed up).. But beyond knowing what it looks like, and how it basically works I knew nothing of the culture, the lingo, how the players interact.
And yes at one point I was belly laughing with tears in my eyes
