The best things since sliced bread... & yeah it comes from IKEA

You heard right. I just found the most amazing product for single people, people with kids, or anyone really and yeah I'm hooked.

Have you ever gone to Ikea and noticed the food store after you paid for your household items? I have ignored that section for 30 years or for however long IKEA has been in CANADA. I saw a lot of Swedish preserves and frozen seafood and never really gave it the time of day.

PANNKAKOR Pancakes, frozen $5.99  / 1.587 lb

Well last week... that all changed! With only my 11 year old daughter Bella in tow we tend to take our time and don't feel so rushed. While she stood in the lineup for frozen yogurt cones (which are awesome BTW) I thought I'll stroll through and give it a look. Ended up picking up 3 frozen items and some packaged sauce to try. A few days later weekend rolls around and I thought why not pull out the crepes and give them a try. I am always looking for quick but healthy kid breakfasts and something Bella could make on her own if I'm off for an early morning. Needless to say they were such a hit she requested them 3 mornings in a row and one day twice in the same day!!

For those of you that are not crepe experts you don't have to make sweet garnishments/sauces. I prefer mine savoury with a soft cheese/green onions or when younger my daughter liked melted cheese & ham. Crepes can be for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert or a snack.

Now before the naysayers start slagging me for laziness or serving/encouraging pre-packaged foods these taste like the real thing, warm up nice, eggy and fluffy and from what I can tell are pretty damn close to homemade!

Ingredients: Buttermilk, egg, wheat flour, vegetable oil, buttermilk powder & salt

My one complaint is that they need a bigger package option;) I only frequent IKEA a few times a year and not many of us live close to one. Not to mention with kid sleepovers you could blow through a bag in one morning.

As a side note to this amazing yet simple discovery (while we are on the topic of breakfast ;)I also found out I was using my french press wrong. Well not exactly wrong but was excluding a very important step. Once you pour your boiling water in and let set for a few minutes you need to give it a quick stir to get the grounds to drop from the top and mingle which also creates a lovely foam that I don't know how I lived my whole life without....

If you have any french press tips or any great IKEA finds let me know. Its the simple things that sometimes mean so much;)
